At cropr we're looking for a Mechanical Engineer to furter develop the mechanical hart of our autonomous weed controller

At cropr, we are looking for a Mechanical Engineer who will be responsible for designing, building and further developing the various components of our autonomous weed controller. Our first machines are out in the fields for their first season, which means the focus is now shifting to further development, optimisation and upscaling. (Add specific component to be worked on?)

What will you be doing?

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the mechanical development of cropr: an autonomous robot that detects and destroys weeds using lasers. You will design and improve the mobile platform, focusing on structural strength, reliability, maintainability, vibration behaviour, assembly and production.

You will contribute ideas on system architecture and the interfaces between mechanics, electronics and software. You will build and test prototypes in real-world conditions, analyse findings from field tests and translate these into targeted design improvements. You will also make a significant contribution to standardisation, documentation and the handover to production.

Your responsibilities

  • Designing and detailing mechanical components and assemblies in CAD.

  • Dimensioning structures for strength, stiffness, durability and manufacturability.

  • Building, testing and iteratively improving prototypes based on practical experience.

  • Defining mechanical interfaces and coordinating them with software and electronics teams.

  • Analysing test results and field data and translating these into design modifications.

  • Documenting design choices and supporting the technical handover to production.

  • Contributing ideas on ease of maintenance, assembly sequence and scalability of the design.

You will bring

  • A higher professional education (HBO) or university (WO) degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics or a similar discipline.

  • Experience in designing, sizing and validating mechanical systems.

  • Experience in CAD design and developing manufacturable designs.

  • A practical, hands-on approach to work: from analysis and design through to construction and testing.

  • Experience in translating prototypes into a robust design for mass production.

  • An affinity with agricultural machinery, mobile machinery or off-road robots is an advantage.

  • You are solution-oriented and collaborate easily with fellow engineers.

At cropr, we are developing an agricultural robot that selectively removes weeds without the use of herbicides. Following the success of our indoor tulip robot (H2L Robotics), the cropr weedr is the next step in sustainable precision farming. The first systems are now in commercial operation, which makes this role particularly interesting: you’ll be working on a platform that is already delivering value in practice, whilst at the same time being prepared for further growth and industrialisation.

cropr was founded by the owners of H2L Robotics. We have extensive experience with autonomous agricultural robots: by 2026, more than 135 autonomous Tulip Selectors were in operation to detect and control diseased tulips.

As demand for chemical-free weed control solutions grew rapidly, we pooled our expertise in recognition, mechanical engineering and autonomy into a new company: cropr.

With a team of 25 experienced specialists, we are working on the production and further development of the cropr weedr. From the end of May 2026, the first weedrs will be at work in chicory cultivation.
